Agnes was born in Queensland on 27 November 1888. She was the sixth child of Mary and Kennis. A sister of the same name died ten months earlier.2

Agnes shared a room with her neice Eileen when they both worked at a cafe in Melbourne. Agnes was also a witness to Eileen's marriage to John Haddock at St Patrick's cathedral in Melbourne in 1919.5,6
