Alexander Livingstone was born in 1856 in Creswick, Victoria.1,2 
He married Maria Jane Carey Williams, daughter of John Williams and Mary Ann Crapp, on 5 March 1878 in Mooroopna, Victoria.3,4 
He died on 31 October 1930 in Allendale, Victoria.5,1

Story

Alexander was born in Creswick in 1856. He was the oldest of at least five children of Agnes and Samuel.2,1
 
Marriage and Family
Maria Jane Williams and Alexander Livingstone were married at the home of her parents in Mooroopna on 5 March 1878. They had ten children between 1878 and 1903, with one early death. Their first child was born three months after they married.3,1,6
 
On the marriage registration, Alexander was a blacksmith in Mooroopna.4
 
Following the withdrawal of John Joseph Williams from Swindle and Williams Coachbuilders in 1879, the business was purchased by brother-in-law, Alexander Livingstone.7
 
The coach factory was in Morell St, near Main St.7
 
The first three children were born in Mooroopna.
 
Around 1884, the family of five moved to Allendale, about 8 km north of Creswick, where the remaining seven children were born.8,9
 
Alexander continued working as a blacksmith, at the Berry United gold mine, about 9 km north of Allendale. Sons Arthur Ernest and Frank Stanley also later worked at the mine.10,8,11,12,13,14,15
 
Maria's Sudden Death 
ALLENDALE. Wednesday:- Maria Jane Livingstone, aged 53 years, wife of a blacksmith employed at the Berry United mine, died suddenly from heart failure after retiring on Monday night. She was the mother of nine children, the youngest of whom is eight years of age.10
 
Alexander Livingstone died in Allendale on 29 October 1930, aged 74. He was buried at Creswick cemetery with wife Maria Jane.5,16
