Story
|
Mary Elizabeth Williams was born in Creswick on 17 April 1869. She was the seventh child of Mary Ann and John.2,1
Most of the family moved from Creswick to Shepparton between February 1877 (when William Charles was buried in Creswick) and August (when John's Crown land application stated he lived in Shepparton). It is possible some of the older children travelled separately, or with John Joseph and his young family. The oldest child Maria was aged twenty and on her March 1878 marriage registration, gives her usual address as Creswick. The youngest child to move was Richard aged six.5,6,7
In April 1888, Sarah Williams, wife of Mary Elizabeth's brother, John Joeph, was staying at the family's Tallygaroopna home. While there, Sarah gave birth to a daughter, Olivia. Mary Elizabeth was the informant for the birth, and her mother Mary Ann, was the midwife.8
Unmarried Aunt Mary Elizabeth never married. She remained close to the daughters of her sister, Charlotte.
[It is difficult to determine Mary Elizabeth's location in the electoral rolls. With a common name, she can only be identified when a known relative is at the same address. She may have been the Mary Elizabeth in Prahran in 1914 as this is the same suburb as her niece Josephine Antoinette de Morton was living. And she may have been the Mary Elizabeth in Allendale in 1915 as this is the same town as her nephew Frank Stanley Livingstone was living.]
In 1943, several family members were living together at 62 Erica Ave in Gardiner (later Glen Iris). They were Mary Elizabeth Williams, Helene Maude de Morton, and Josephine Antoinette and William Henry Errol.11
Mary Elizabeth Williams died in Glen Iris on 27 July 1950, aged 81.3,4
